We are all about sensory activities in our house. And after everyone in our house being sick, we needed a little bit of fun while we were keeping our germs to ourselves at home. I'd been dying to try out this clean finger painting I'd found on Pinterest (http://hippiehousewife.blogspot.com/2012/01/mess-free-finger-painting.html), and today seemed like as good a day as any.
Here's how I created the bags:
Materials:
Gallon Size Ziploc Bags
Paint - I used washable tempera paint
Masking/Painters Tape
White Paper for Background
What I Did:
1. Squirt a generous squirt of two colors in each bag. I opted for combinations of primary colrs.
2. Squeeze out excess air. Seal bag tightly shut
3. Tape bags to table top on top of white paper.
4. Have fun pushing paint around, watching colors blend, and exploring.
The Outcome:
I'm pretty sure I had has much fun with this activity as my kids did. Ok, truth, I probably had more fun. I left them taped to the table all day and could not help but stop by and play. The kids would spend a bit of time here and there, but also kept coming back to it. It gave us a great opportunity to talk about colors we saw, and colors we made. Alice thought it was particularly funny to lay on top of the bag and create a belly imprint. We made happy faces, swirlies and wrote letters.
About half way through the day a friend suggested hanging the bags onto a window. As I readied our table for dinner, this is exactly what I did. Simply moving the bags lead to a whole new round of fun. The kids had a ball creating windows to the backyard and footprints from their new vantage point.
They are still hanging on our window and I'm looking forward to the fun we get to have tomorrow. Definitely an activity we'll be doing again. Super fun, and very little clean up!
